Google Business Profile Edit Not Published or Stuck in Review? Here’s Why

You changed your hours, added a new phone number or uploaded fresh photos. Days later, customers still see the old version. You open your profile and the edit says it’s under review, or worse, it just isn’t there. When a Google Business Profile edit is not published, it feels like Google is ignoring you. Usually it isn’t. There’s a reason the edit is waiting, and most of those reasons are in your control.

Google Business Profile edit not published

The short answer

A Google Business Profile edit is not published usually because it’s still under review (common for name, address and category changes), the profile is unverified or suspended, the change conflicts with other public information, it breaks a content policy, or you submitted the same edit repeatedly. Wait a few days, stop re-editing, check your profile status, and make sure your website and listings match the change.

First, check your profile status

Before looking at the edit itself, look at the profile. Google’s own policy overview says it may reject content added to unverified profiles, and content submitted before a profile is suspended, disabled or deleted. You can read this in Overview of Google Business Profile policies.

  • Unverified? Verify first. Our guide on video verification helps if you’re stuck.
  • Suspended? No edit will go live until the suspension is resolved.
  • Everything normal? Carry on below.

Common reasons an edit is stuck or rejected

1. It’s a sensitive field under review

Business name, address and primary category are the fields Google guards most. Changes to these often go to review, and sometimes trigger re-verification. A few days of waiting is normal.

2. You edited the same thing several times

This is the one we see most. The first edit goes into review, the owner gets impatient, edits again, and again. Each new edit can restart the process or look suspicious. Make one clean edit and leave it.

3. The change doesn’t match what Google sees elsewhere

If you change your phone number on Google but your website, Justdial and Facebook all still show the old one, Google has reason to doubt the change. Update those sources first or at the same time.

4. The content breaks a policy

Some edits are rejected outright. Common examples:

  • Adding keywords, offers or city names to the business name
  • Links, phone numbers or prices in the business description
  • Stock photos, heavily edited images or pictures with big text overlays
  • Posts with misleading claims

Google’s guidelines for representing your business list what’s allowed in each field.

5. It’s a duplicate of something already accepted

Google notes that some content isn’t added because it already exists, like uploading the same photo or phone number twice.

6. A processing error

Occasionally Google simply fails to process a change. If it’s been more than a week, a basic edit is still missing and nothing else explains it, try once more, then contact support.

What to do, step by step

  1. Check profile status for verification or suspension warnings.
  2. Stop editing the field for at least 3 to 5 days.
  3. Make sure the change follows the guidelines. No keywords in the name, no links in the description.
  4. Update your website and main directories so they match.
  5. Check photos: real, clear, no watermarks or large text.
  6. If it’s still stuck after a week, contact Google Business Profile support with a clear explanation and any proof, like a photo of new signage or a utility bill for a new address.

Name, address and category changes need extra care

If you really need to change more than one of these, don’t do them together. Change one, let it settle, then do the next. We saw what happens when an owner changed name and address in one edit: the profile was suspended. The full story is in our DentoFix case study.

FAQs

How long does it take for Google Business Profile edits to go live?

Simple changes can appear within minutes or hours. Sensitive fields like name, address and category can take several days, and sometimes need re-verification.

Why was my business description rejected?

Usually because it contains links, phone numbers, prices, offers or irrelevant keywords. Keep it about what your business does.

Why are my photos not showing on my profile?

They may still be under review, or they may break Google’s photo policy. Use clear, real photos taken at your business.

Should I create a new profile if edits keep failing?

No. That creates a duplicate and usually makes things worse. Fix the reason the edit is failing instead.

Still stuck?

If your edits keep getting stuck, it’s usually a hidden conflict or a guideline issue somewhere on the profile. Our GBP publishing and update error fix service finds it and gets your changes live. Get in touch for a quick look.
