How to Fix Wrong Business Hours, Phone or Address on Google

A customer calls to say they went to your shop on Sunday and found the shutter down, because Google said you were open. Or someone tells you your listing still shows the old landline you stopped using two years ago. Wrong details on Google cost you customers every single day, and most people who see them never tell you. They just call someone else.

Here’s how to fix wrong business hours, phone number or address on Google, depending on whether you manage the profile or not, and how to stop the wrong info coming back.

Fix wrong business hours on Google

The short answer

To fix wrong business hours, phone or address on Google, sign in to the account that manages your Business Profile, open the profile, choose Edit profile, and update the field. Changes can take a few days to show while Google reviews them. If you don’t manage the profile, use Suggest an edit on Google Maps, or claim the profile. Then fix the same details on your website and other directories so Google doesn’t change them back.

If you manage the profile

  1. Sign in to the Google account linked to your Business Profile.
  2. Search your business name on Google or open it in Google Maps.
  3. Select Edit profile.
  4. Go to the right section: Contact for phone and website, Location for address and pin, Hours for opening hours.
  5. Update the information and save.

Google’s help page on editing your Business Profile has the latest screens if the layout has changed.

Fixing each field properly

Business hours

  • Set your regular hours for each day, including lunch breaks if you close.
  • Add special hours for Diwali, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, national holidays and any day you’re closed. Google explains this in set special hours.
  • Use More hours for things like home delivery or OPD timings, if your category offers it.

Holiday hours are where most businesses get caught out. It takes two minutes a month and saves a lot of angry reviews.

Phone number

  • Use a number that rings at your business and that someone answers during listed hours.
  • A local mobile or landline is better than a central call-centre number.
  • Add a second number as an additional phone if you need to.
  • Update the same number on your website, WhatsApp Business, Justdial and other listings.

Address and map pin

  • Write the address the way a courier would need it: shop number, floor, building, road, sector, area, city, PIN code.
  • Drag the pin to your actual entrance, not the middle of the building or main road.
  • Address changes are sensitive. Google may ask you to verify again, especially for a big move. If you’re relocating to a new city, read our Pune to Mumbai case study before touching anything.

If you don’t manage the profile

Maybe you never claimed it, or a former employee set it up. You have two options:

  1. Suggest an edit: open the business on Google Maps, tap Suggest an edit, and correct the hours, phone or address. Google reviews suggestions and may accept them.
  2. Claim or request access to the profile so you can edit it directly. If someone else controls it, see someone else owns my Google Business listing.

Why the wrong info keeps coming back

You fix the hours, and a week later they’ve changed again. That usually means another public source disagrees with you. Google pulls information from users, your website and other sites. See what “Google updated your business info” means for the full picture. Check:

  • Your website’s footer and contact page
  • Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMART, Practo (for doctors), Zomato and Swiggy (for restaurants)
  • Your Facebook and Instagram business pages
  • Old flyers or listings in local directories online

Once they all match, Google stops “correcting” you.

How long do changes take?

Many edits appear within a few minutes to a few days. Some, especially name, address and category changes, go through review first. Don’t keep re-editing the same field while it’s pending. That can slow things down or trigger extra checks. If an edit seems stuck, see Google Business Profile edit not published.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Changing name, address and category all in one go
  • Listing a number that goes to voicemail most of the day
  • Putting keywords or offers into the business name while editing
  • Creating a new profile because the old one had wrong details

FAQs

Why does Google show my business as closed when it’s open?

Your hours may be wrong, special hours may be missing, or users may have reported you as closed. Update your hours and add special hours where needed.

How do I change my phone number on Google Maps?

Edit profile, then Contact, then update the phone number. If you don’t manage the listing, use Suggest an edit.

Will changing my address affect my ranking?

It can. Rankings are tied to location, and a big move may require re-verification. Small corrections usually have little effect.

Can anyone change my business information?
