You change your opening hours and the edit reverts within a day. You add a service and it never appears. You update your description and Google shows the old one. The profile is not suspended, so there is no notification explaining anything — the changes simply do not stick.
Rank on Maps diagnoses and fixes publishing errors on Google Business Profiles for businesses across Mumbai.
What these errors look like
Edits pending indefinitely. The change is submitted and shows as under review, then stays there for weeks.
Changes reverting. The edit publishes, then rolls back to the previous value a day or two later.
Posts failing to publish. Updates and offers are rejected with a generic error message.
Photos not appearing. Uploads complete but never show on the live profile.
Fields locked entirely. The name, category or address field cannot be edited at all.
“Update from Google” overwriting you. Google’s own systems replace your data with information gathered elsewhere.
Duplicate content warnings. Posts refused because the text resembles something already published.
What actually causes them
Publishing errors are usually a symptom rather than the problem itself. The common underlying causes:
The profile is under quality review. Not suspended, but flagged, which puts edits into manual approval.
Conflicting third-party data. Directory listings and data aggregators reporting different information, which Google trusts over your edit.
A duplicate listing exists. Edits applied to one listing get overwritten by data from the other.
Too many edits at once. Bulk changes trigger a hold on the whole profile.
Policy-breaching content. Phone numbers or URLs in fields that do not allow them, or promotional language in the business description.
Category restrictions. Certain categories lock specific fields or disable posts entirely.
Account permission problems. Editing as a manager rather than an owner limits which fields you can change.
How we fix it
Identify which error you actually have. A reverting edit and a locked field are different problems with different causes, and treating one as the other wastes time.
Check for duplicates. A second listing pulling data in the opposite direction is one of the most common causes, and nothing else works until it is resolved.
Audit external data sources. We find the directories and aggregators feeding Google information that contradicts your profile, and correct them.
Review the content. Fields are checked against policy so the edit is not being refused for something avoidable.
Confirm permissions. We make sure the account making the edit has the access level required for that field.
Re-submit in the right sequence. Changes are spaced rather than batched, which reduces the chance of another hold.
Escalate where needed. Where the profile is genuinely stuck, we take it to Google support with the diagnostic work already done.
Common questions
My hours keep changing back on their own.
This is usually Google overwriting your data from another source, or a duplicate listing. It is fixable, but the fix is at the source rather than on the profile.
Why do my posts get rejected?
Most often for phone numbers in the text, promotional wording that breaks policy, or content too similar to a previous post. The error message rarely says which.
Is this the same as a suspension?
No. Your listing is still live and visible. But persistent publishing errors often indicate the profile is flagged, and that can precede a suspension if left alone.
How long does it take to resolve?
Simple causes such as permissions or policy-breaching content resolve within days. Duplicate listings and bad aggregator data take two to four weeks because external sources have to update first.
