GBP Verification Postcard Not Received: What to Do Next

Waiting for a GBP verification postcard that never arrives is one of the most frustrating parts of setting up a Google Business Profile. Days turn into weeks, the profile stays unverified, and your business cannot appear properly on Google Maps. This guide explains how long the postcard really takes, why it often goes missing (especially in India), what not to do while you wait, and the fastest ways to get verified if the card never shows up.

GBP verification postcard not received

Quick answer: GBP verification postcard not received?

Google says most GBP verification postcard codes arrive within 14 days. If yours has not arrived after that, first check that your address on the profile is complete and deliverable, then check whether Google offers another verification method (phone, text, email or video) in your profile. Only request a new postcard if no other option is available, because each new request cancels the previous code, and codes expire after 30 days.

How postcard verification works

When you choose postcard (mail) verification, Google sends a physical card to the address on your Business Profile. The card contains a 5-digit code. You enter this code in your profile to finish verification. According to Google’s help page Verify your business on Google:

  • Most codes arrive within 14 days
  • Requesting a new code makes the old one invalid
  • Verification codes expire after 30 days
  • You should not edit your business name, address or category while waiting

Why your GBP verification postcard did not arrive

1. The address is incomplete or formatted badly

Indian addresses are often written in many ways: shop number, building name, sector, plot, landmark. If the profile address is missing a shop number, floor or building name, the postman may not find you. Check that the address reads exactly as a courier would need it.

2. The postcard went to a reception, society office or neighbour

In commercial complexes and housing societies, mail often lands at the security desk or maintenance office. Ask them to check for a small white card from Google.

3. It looked like junk mail

The postcard is small and plain. Staff sometimes throw it away with flyers. Tell your team to watch for it.

4. You requested a new code too soon

If you asked for a second postcard before the first arrived, the first code stopped working. Even if the first card turns up later, its code will fail.

5. You edited the profile while waiting

Changing the name, address or category during the waiting period can reset or complicate verification.

6. Postal delays

Cards travel by regular post. Festival seasons, remote areas and bad weather can all add delays beyond 14 days.

What to do next: step by step

  1. Wait the full 14 days from the date you requested the card before taking action.
  2. Check with reception, security, neighbours and staff for any Google mail.
  3. Open your Business Profile and look for other options. Select “Get verified” and see whether phone, text, email, a live video call or a recorded video is now offered. Video is often available and faster. See our guide to passing Google Business Profile video verification.
  4. Review your address. If something is genuinely wrong, correct it once, then request verification again.
  5. Request a new postcard only if needed, and then do not request another one while waiting.
  6. Contact Google Business Profile support if repeated postcards fail to arrive, and explain what you have already tried.

What not to do while waiting

  • Do not request multiple postcards back to back
  • Do not change your business name, address or category
  • Do not create a second profile for the same business, which creates a duplicate listing
  • Do not share your verification code with anyone outside your business
  • Do not pay anyone who promises “instant verification” through shortcuts

How to enter the code when it arrives

  1. Sign in with the Google account that manages the profile.
  2. Search your business name on Google or open it in Google Maps.
  3. Select the option to enter your verification code.
  4. Type the 5-digit code exactly as printed and submit.

Google may still review the profile after you enter the code. This can take a few business days.

Is postcard verification still used?

Postcard verification still exists, but for many businesses Google now offers faster options such as video recording or phone and text codes. The methods shown depend on your business type, location and profile history, so you may not see all of them.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Google Business Profile postcard take to arrive?

Google says most codes arrive within 14 days, though it can take longer if you request multiple codes.

Does the verification code expire?

Yes. Google states that verification codes expire after 30 days.

My postcard arrived after I requested a new one. Will the old code work?

No. Requesting a new code invalidates the previous one. Use only the latest code.

Can I change verification from postcard to video?

Often yes. Open your profile and select “Get verified” to see which methods are currently available for you.

Can my business rank on Google Maps before verification?

An unverified profile has very limited visibility and you cannot manage it fully, so verification should always come first.
