Here’s a situation that confuses a lot of owners. Someone googles your business name and your profile appears on the right side of Search, with reviews, photos, the works. But open Google Maps, search “salon near me” or even your own name, and you’re nowhere. So is your business on Google or not?
It is. The two places just behave differently. When a business shows on Google Search but not on Maps, the reason usually falls into one of five buckets.

The short answer
A business shows on Google Search but not on Maps mainly because (1) it’s a service-area business with a hidden address, so there’s no pin, (2) Maps is ranking it lower for general searches than Search does for the brand name, (3) the map pin is in the wrong place, (4) the profile is newly verified or under review, or (5) the Maps app is showing different results based on the phone’s location and filters.
Why Search and Maps aren’t the same thing
When someone types your exact business name into Google, Google is confident they want you, so it shows your full profile. That’s a branded search. Maps is different. People mostly use it for discovery: “chemist open now”, “tiffin service Nerul”. In those searches you’re competing with every similar business nearby, and distance from the person searching matters a lot.
So “I show on Search” often really means “I show when people already know my name”. That’s not the same as being found by new customers.
The five usual reasons
1. You’re a service-area business with the address hidden
If you visit customers, like electricians, AC repair or home tutors, you probably hid your address. That’s the right setup under Google’s business representation guidelines, but it means there’s no fixed pin to find on the map. You can still appear in local results, mostly for searches inside the service area you set.
What to do: Check that your service areas are realistic and close to where you’re based. Setting all of Maharashtra won’t help.
2. You rank for your name but not for the service
This is the most common one. Your profile exists fine on Maps, you just aren’t in the top results for general searches. Test it: search your exact name in the Maps app. If you appear, the profile is fine and this is a ranking job. Start with category, services, reviews and photos. Our checklist in business not showing on Google Maps covers the fixes.
3. The pin is in the wrong spot
We see this a lot in new buildings and in areas like Kharghar or Ulwe where roads are newer. The address text is right but the pin sits on a different lane or even a different sector. Maps then shows you in the wrong neighbourhood, or ranks you for the wrong area.
What to do: Edit your address in the profile and drag the pin to your actual entrance. Make this one edit and then leave it alone.
4. The profile is new or an edit is under review
Freshly verified profiles, or ones with a recent name, address or category change, can take a little while to settle on Maps. Stop making changes and give it a few days.
5. Maps is filtering the results
The Maps app uses the phone’s location, and sometimes filters like “Open now” or “Top rated”. If you tested at 10 pm and your hours say you close at 9, you may simply be filtered out. Test again during business hours with no filters on.
A quick test you can do right now
- Open the Google Maps app on your phone with location on.
- Search your exact business name. Found? Profile is fine.
- Search your main service plus your area. Note your position.
- Walk or drive 1 to 2 km away and search again.
If you show up close by but disappear a short distance away, that’s normal distance behaviour. The fix is to strengthen prominence (reviews, photos, activity) so you hold your position over a wider radius.
Things that don’t help
- Creating a second listing with a visible address “for Maps”. That’s a duplicate and can get both suspended.
- Adding the area name into your business name, like “Sharma Electricals Vashi Best”. That breaks Google’s naming rules.
- Listing a relative’s shop or a virtual office as your address.
FAQs
Why does my business appear in the knowledge panel but not in the local 3-pack?
The knowledge panel shows when someone searches your name. The 3-pack shows the most relevant nearby businesses for a general search. Appearing in one doesn’t guarantee the other.
I’m a home-based business. Can I show a pin on Maps?
Only if customers actually visit that address during your listed hours and there’s permanent signage. Otherwise, you should stay a service-area business with the address hidden.
How long does a pin correction take?
Usually a few days, since Google may review the change before it goes live.
Why do different people see different results on Maps?
Because results depend heavily on where each person is standing when they search.
